TalentCorp and InvestKL launches the Malaysia Global Talent (MGT) Programme

The Malaysia Global Talent (MGT) Programme was launched in March 2018. The programme is a joint initiative by TalentCorp and InvestKL, supported by the Ministry of Education; and is designed to provide opportunities of collaboration between multinational corporations (MNCs) and local universities to create future Malaysian leaders.
MGT’s main objective is to nurture 5,500 global Malaysian leaders by the year 2022. The first phase of the programme will bring together 12 top global MNCs and 10 public universities in a collaboration to select, mentor and develop Malaysia’s most promising talent.
I am very confident that MGT will be a huge success and an inspiration for similar collaborations to happen in Malaysia. With a highly educated workforce, a robust talent ecosystem and multiple MNCs having presence here, the MGT will help steer the country into its high-income aspiration.”
TalentCorp Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shareen Dato’ Abdul Ghani shared that the programme will provide opportunities for Malaysians to learn from the very best, as the scale of the MNCs’ capabilities, the development, sharing of knowledge and best practices will prepare the country’s workforce for the future of work.
Our focus is to look beyond developing talent. The MGT strives to connect talent with global opportunities as talent mobility will enhance Malaysia into a dynamic talent hub.”
The programme will focus on three talent groups, namely Young Executive, Senior Executive and Apprenticeship. It offers Malaysian participants opportunities such as secondments, internships, mentorship programmes and knowledge-sharing sessions with C-suite personalities from prestigious MNCs.

Among the participating MNCs in the first phase of MGT programme are Cargill, Honeywell, IBM, Linde and Schlumberger, along with universities such as Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Heriot-Watt University.

The MGT programme was launched at the annual InvestKL Innovation Showcase 2018, themed “Impacting Malaysian Lives”. The event hosted various activities including an exhibition walk, talks by influential personalities and sharing sessions for students.

InvestKL CEO Datuk Zainal Amanshah said,
This year, our target is to attract more MNCs with access to the digital space and advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics and cyber security, to educate our talent with the current trends that will impact the way we work and to keep them future-proof.”
