The myASEANinternship programme provides high-achieving Malaysian students or recent graduates from local and overseas universities the opportunity to intern with leading employers at various ASEAN locations. It also enable students from ASEAN countries who are studying in Malaysia or have recently graduated to do internship stints in Malaysia.
Under the programme, students have the opportunity to work with regional giants like CIMB or GE in an ASEAN country such as Vietnam, combining a remarkable work experience opportunity with an unforgettable travelling memory. A life-changing experience offering an international exposure, the programme is now in its second year running and has seen applications from numerous graduates across the ASEAN region.
A collaboration between the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) and TalentCorp, the myASEANinternship programme hopes to engage students and fresh graduates by increasing awareness of ASEAN and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) among youth.
This year, the programme commenced in January 2016 and will be carried out across two sessions: January to June and July to December. With a minimum internship duration of eight weeks, myASEAN Interns will get to experience the work culture in different parts of the region while developing on-the-job skillsets. Of course, it goes without saying that the interns will also have the chance to discover the culture and explore the country that they are based in.
The event itself provides youth with the opportunity to not only meet business leaders from around the region but also to find out more about what it takes to work for big companies like AirAsia, DiGi, IKEA, Maybank, Sime Darby and UEM. And as some interns like Nur Hana Mohamed Ariffin and Carmen Chong, participants from the first batch of myASEANinternship programme, found out, it was also about cross-cultural appreciation.
