Companies find opportunities to discover new talent through myASEANinternship

Finding the right employee can be tough for many employers. Finding one with cross-cultural work experience may prove to be an even bigger challenge. In order to remain competitive in today’s world, companies need to be able to tap into new talent pools.
By participating in the myASEANinternship programme, companies with operations throughout the ASEAN region like CIMB and Maybank have been able to discover new talents from a pool of highly qualified fresh graduates looking to capitalise on their work experience abroad.

A collaboration between the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) and TalentCorp, the myASEANinternship programme has seen companies such as AirAsia, Axiata, BDO, CIMB, Deloitte, Digi, Frost & Sullivan, GE, Group M, IKEA, Maybank, KPMG, PwC, Securities Commission Malaysia, UEM, and Uniliver signing on as participating employers.

Each of these companies view myASEAN Interns as potential employees and are invested in providing these young minds with a unique working experience while preparing them for the future of a more globalised workplace.

For Hamidah Naziadin, CIMB’s Group Chief People Officer, the myASEANinternship programme is an opportunity to provide exposure while reaching out to new talents. Hamidah believes that the programme will help young people of today to not only learn and grow but understand the value of a cross-cultural experience.
...with that (exposure in an ASEAN environment), they will be able to understand, have a different understanding and leverage on this cross-cultural difference...which is our key strength in ASEAN.”
Group Chief Human Capital Officer at UEM Group Berhad, Norlida Azmi believes that while the company is providing young talents with new experiences, UEM also has the opportunity to learn from these graduates. From her perspective, myASEANinternship has been a chance for the company to learn how to develop talent and in turn, be rewarded by talent contribution from within ASEAN.

Datin Sri Badrunnisa, Group Chief Talent officer for Axiata Group Berhad, sees the myASEANinternship programme as a unique opportunity for the company to do some employer branding amongst the graduates in the countries where they operate in. At the same time, Datin Sri Badrunissa hopes that the programme would provide “exposure to these students to the different countries”.
